The Battle for Singapore is an introductory Armoured Clash box set for this game, including Empire and Crown starter forces, along with a tutorial that teaches players the game though several scenarios set in this conflict. This was the inspiration for Jade Typhoon, an unofficial narrative campaign featured here documenting the events preceding the attack on Singapore city.
Flashpoint: Singapore
Conflict has erupted between the Empire and the Crown, in
response to the outrageous actions of Benedict Arnold III to seize Tian Sen
Monks on an attempt to discover the secrets of the Celestial Emperors. However, conflict between Crown and Empire
over the island of Singapore was long foreseen by Jingfei Sun, who has
developed a plan to rapidly overwhelm the defences of Singapore, using an
overland offensive to bypasses many of the strong Crown naval defences and powerful
fleet stationed in Singapore.
This plan; Jade Typhoon, requires the Empire to move
quickly, exploiting tactics of operational manoeuvre and Crown
complacency. In particular, the Empire
troops plan advance down through the thick jungle terrain of Malaya and then
land their forces on the Island of Singapore.
The key Empire leaders reporting to Jingfei Sun include:
- General Chakri - the Golden Crab. A Thai military leader who commands the mighty Laoshan Landship Singha. Chakri is famed for drilling troops to the highest level of discipline and has been assigned command of leading the initial advance on Singapore, utilising his familiarity with the local terrain.
- Commander Feng - leader of the Green Banner Regiment in Malaya and relative of Jingfei Sun, Feng is keen to seek glory and fame in the campaign through bravery and daring.
- Strike-Leader Jinbao - recently arrived in Malaya and a proponent of fast-moving armoured attacks to penetrate enemy lines and secure breakthroughs.
- Master Rammalak - a talented alchemist who has developed experimental new toxins and gasses to be tested during the offensive.
The key Crown leaders under Benedict Arnold III include:
- General Roberts - Roberts has long had a reputation for taking chances and has long taken issue with the Crown's focus on the naval defence of Singapore, over land-based options. Roberts masterminded Operation Matador to seize the operational initiative from the Empire in case of hostilities and has made his headquarters aboard the Sovereign Class Landship Invincible.
- Brigadier Gordon - an experienced battlefield commander who has been urgently transferred to Singapore as tensions with the Empire increase and conflict looms.
- Colonel Falkner - a young, ambitious officer of noble birth who is keen to live up to the family reputation of success and bravery on the battlefield.
- Major Templeton - a mysterious intelligence officer who operates with the direct authority of Benedict Arnold III and often takes command of troops to order them on missions that haven't been approved by senior officers.
The narrative campaign will consist of four games of
Armoured Clash, covering the period prior to the Empire attack on Singapore and
concluding with the assault on the first line of the city defences. Each game will use and existing Clash
scenario, drawn from the Armoured Clash rulebook and feature forces of
increasing size, beginning with a Skirmish level game (less than 1,500 points
per side) running through to a Cataclysm (more than 3,000 points per side). An overview of each game is included below,
with more details included in each battle report:
Game One: Reconnaissance. This is a 1,495 point Skirmish size game
to determine the fate of a Crown pilot and the photographic plates which show
the disposition of the Empire invasion force.
The game is played using the Find the Lady Clash.
Game Two: Operation Matador. This is a 2,000 point Battle size game
of the Crown offensive operation to forestall the Empire invasion by attacking
into Malaya. The game is played using
the Pitched Battle Clash.
Game Three: Southern Beacon. This is a 2,500 point Battle size game, where the Empire launch a surprise attack on a key Crown supply base cut supplies to their costal defences and allow the invasion force to cross onto Singapore island. The game is played using the Lord of the Manor Clash.
Game Four: Typhoon Strikes. This is a 4,250 point Cataclysm size game as the Empire overruns the outer defences of the City of
Singapore, attempting to seize Crown supply depots and a VIP with a royal
connection. The game is played using the
Supply Drop and Find the Lady Clashes.
